Halloween Storytime

This program ran a few days before Halloween, so it was an easy program to plan.

I started by asking the children what they were going to be for Halloween before I read our first book.

This book was really fun and the kids loved it. The action rhyme was based on the book by Ed and Rebecca Emberly.

If you’re a monster and you know it, snort and growl

If you’re a monster and you know it, snort and growl

If you’re a monster and you know it, snort and growl

and you really want to show it,

If you’re a monster and you know it—snort and growl

Also:  smack your claws, stomp your paws, twitch your tail, wiggle your warts, give a roar, do it all

Of course, we had to sing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” before our next book.

I can’t recall where I found my next action song, sorry about that!

Stirring and stirring and stirring our brew (hold your hands together and pretend your stirring something in a big pot).

WHOOO-OO, WHOO-OO (put hands near mouth and wiggle fingers).

*Stirring and stirring and stirring our brew (same hand action as before).

WHOO-OO, WHOO-OO (same finger action as before).

Tip-toe, tip-toe, tip-toe–BOO! (With each tip-toe sing lower and use your fingers to tip-toe in the air, until BOO where you then close and open your hands next to your face, saying BOO loud!)

I showed the movie “By the Light of the Halloween Moon” before we created our own masks from Oriental Trading.
